BAGS! Wine bags are up on my Etsy store TracyMakesIt and you need them :)

The coolest part of this food blog gig is the blatant self promotion.  Ok it's not, the coolest part it cooking with cooking types and talking food with food types and sharing what I do  BUT the other cool part is blatant self promotion.

On top of cooking and writing about it, I sew.  I LOVE to create stuff and I've been called a fiber artist but that title seems too hipster, I sew, let's leave it at that.

I sell quite a few Bread Bags and if you haven't had a look, go take a peek.  I use them all the time for everything.

I am in a Maker Faire next week, it's a private sale so I am putting the cool bags I've made on my Etsy shop so everyone can buy them.  At the moment, I only ship within the USA but I am looking into finding cheaper ways to ship worldwide so all of you can inundate your friends with wine in my bags.

Here they are, take a look, see if there's anything you dig and then head over to my store.  IF you message me that you saw the link here I'll cut you a deal because we foodie types have to stick together.

Check out what came out of my head.  They are linen or ticking and I printed the images onto them.

Linen Bread Bags, Sunset Magazine and other cool stuff.....

HEY there!

A little more blatant self promotion for a moment... then I'll show you how I made these rolls.  I saw a picture of something similar and wondered if my easy, one rise, roll recipe would work to make just 6 and, well, it sure did!  Look at these lovelies!

I'll write out the recipe when I'm back later, I have a million errands to run.  It's hard organizing to get away for a few days without any help whatsoever.

BUT IN THE MEAN TIME, this news:

My linen bread bags are in the December issue of SUNSET Magazine.   Sunset Magazine is available in the 14 Western States, if you're west of me, go get it!  It's a great magazine with great ideas and articles and this month, there's me too!
*I haven't seen it yet but I'm hoping someone west of me will sent me a picture until I receive one in the mail

Linen things I make and sell that are totally food related.

I try really hard not to steer you wrong.  I love sharing my ideas and recipes and just general stuff here.

I like to have some of the toys that go along with the cooking that I do. I'm not a fan of single use or specific use items, I think we all need to be using our money on things that have many uses.

I sell on Etsy and my store is:
Tracy Makes Stuff

I sell through my Facebook store page:
Tracy Makes Stuff in Austin

That being said, I have a few items that I use in my house that I make to sell and I think they are appropriate items to list here.

A head's up, the linen bread bags are going to be included in a Californian magazine in their December issue, I'll post the link here closer to the time.  I'm so excited :D

Anyway, these are the foodie items I'm selling in the store.  I wanted you to have 'dibs' on them because Christmas is coming and I am planning of starting to make a lot more of these items.

1.  Linen baking cloth, also known as a clouche.
Bakers Linen Cloth Baking Clouche 100% Linen Flax Linen Proofing cloth
I use these to cover my island when I make bread  It reduces the amount of flour I need.  I can use it to flip soft dough (like my ciabatta) around and over and I can cover loaves while they rise.  It absorbs some liquid and there is a solid difference in the dough that I shape and let rise on the floured counter and the dough that I shape and let rise on the cloth

2.  Linen bread bags and Linen potato bags

I use these to store my fresh bread.  There's no mold on the bread and it is better than plastic.  I don't think bread should be stored any longer than a day or two.  In my house, after a day or so, it becomes bread crumbs or croutons that I store in the freezer.

I also have these bags with the word POTATO across the front, yeah, I store my potatoes in them, they stop any mold or yukkiness from the plastic bag, and they're kept in the dark so they don't sprout so quickly.  Brilliant I know, my mother's idea.  OH and she has a pocked on her potato bag that says 'garlic'.  Yeah, high, dry, dark and it all lasts so much longer.

AND for the Whovians of us...
https://www.etsy.com/listing/164515906/dr-who-tardis-moustache-linen-napkins?

I'm OVER handing people a piece of paper towel when we eat. I don't like cotton napkins, they don't feel right and I'm all about linen.  I, however, do NOT make the linen napkins from 100% linen, because you'd have to iron then and there's no one with enough time or energy to iron napkins for every day.

I use a 80-20 linen cotton blend. No ironing and it behaves exactly like 100% linen.  The feel is the same, the look and the use.  Perfect.

These are the perfect addition to the house.  They wash up a dream and I have a pile of them that are in perpetual rotation.  I have both the black and the natural, depending on my mood.  Initially, I thought black was weird as a napkin but it's GREAT!

Let me know what you think of the items, I'm interested.  I don't know what the rates are to ship outside the USA but I'm looking into it.

Have a great rest of your day, I'm making bread and pressure cooker jambalaya (which I'll post in a day or so) in preparation for my mom coming to stay for a bit.  I love playing in the kitchen with her, I'll post what we make.

enjoy

It's about the Bread, how to store it and my fabulous linen bread bags. A little bit of information, blatant self promotion and a great idea.

BLATANT SELF PROMOTION ALERT!

BLATANT SELF PROMOTION ALERT!

Well, come on now, I cook and I sew, it was about time I put the two together.

I have been fighting with storage issues for the bread, ciabatta, pretzels, croissants and anything else I've made lately with flour and yeast.  I will confess (purists, avert your eyes) that frequently, I wrap my bread loosely in a plastic grocery bag and leave it on the counter.  *shame*

I refuse to put it in the fridge for the obvious dryness problem but I will freeze loaves when they're cool then bag them in Ziploc.

I have been reading about linen bread bags.  Seriously?  How on earth will that make it NOT go stale?  Well, I'm here to tell you, it doesn't.  They are great.  They are seriously great.  I sort of became a line convert when I treated myself to a hideously overpriced linen bread cloth.  Really, a hunk of linen that I could have made myself but, hey, sometimes you want someone else to make it.

I made linen bread cloths for friends and I am going to start selling them on Etsy.  I just made one for my International tester as a surprise.

Then, I started making bread bags.  I made the bags for me, for friends, for use as delivery vessels when I arrive at whatever location I'm invited to with my bread.  I have made bread some bags now and they ARE on Etsy, my link is above.  They are big and even though there's draw string closures, I find I just put the bread in and fold the end of the bag underneath, it sure looks prettier on the counter than a bunch of grocery garbage bags or veggie plastic bags from the store.  Yeah, you do too!

*this is the "best white" farmhouse loaf,  it's 7 inches tall!!

IF you don't want to go play on Etsy, you can, however, just email/message me here and we can bypass Etsy all together.

I think they're great, they are handy, pretty, light, soft and they keep fresh bread fresh for a period of time longer than a bag or just sitting on the counter.  Remember, however, fresh bread needs to be eaten in a timely manner just by virtue of it's freshness but this is really, truly a way to keep it around that extra day before it becomes food for chickens, hamsters or the local squirrels.

Even if you don't buy one of mine, go get yourself a linen bread bag.  You'll be pleased you did.

IN case you didn't notice the link above, here it is again! :)  *cheeky aren't I?
